Cube leads the way to significant energy savings at South Coast Shopping Centre…

Jul 22, 2015

Cube, working in partnership with CO2 Target, was invited to undertake a survey of the HVAC Plant and Systems at the Swan Shopping Centre, Southampton.
It quickly became evident that while the original HVAC installation was some years old the BMS installation was reasonably new. The issues occurring stemmed from inflexible software design and badly placed environmental sensors that were providing data which simply did not reflect the environment within the mall itself. Equally, dozens of lighting circuits were being employed that had to be manually controlled via the Mall Management Personnel every day.
Cube deployed a wireless sensor solution throughout the mall to monitor the temperature, air quality and humidity. This approach was both fast, reliable and involved virtually no disruption to the public spaces.
The existing BMS software was augmented to respond to the new sensor data and to provide additional energy efficient control routines designed by Cube. In addition to this the existing lighting circuit control was automated and integrated with external light level sensing via the BMS to make the most use of the extensive glass roofed areas throughout the mall.
The overall result was a huge CR_SC_4968_Swan_Centre_Eastleigh_picture_15_p6_800x467reduction in electrical usage that equated to a 12 month payback period for this BMS project.
